Description of diesel generator D50

D50 (D-50) - in-line six-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine with water cooling. Used in railway and water transport.

The engine has 6 cylinders with a diameter of 318 mm, a piston stroke of 330 mm, 4 valves per cylinder (2 inlet, 2 exhaust) and 2 camshafts: the first for the gas distribution mechanism, and the second for the drive of high-pressure fuel pumps (HPF). The compression ratio at the beginning was 11 and the turbocharger was 1.2 atm. Power 1000 hp at 740 rpm, idling 270 rpm. Subsequently, the compression ratio increased to 12.5 and the boost increased to 1.6 atm. The engine began to produce 1200 hp. at 750 rpm, and idle speed increased to 300 rpm, which increased idle consumption to 6 liters of fuel per hour instead of 5.5, but increased overall fuel efficiency by 5%.

Varieties:

  • D50 - basic model, installed on mainline diesel locomotives.
  • D50S - ship modification, installed on tankers, river icebreakers, sea tugs, motor ships.
  • 1D50 - installed on a mobile railway power station.
  • 2D50 - differed in the profile of the camshaft cams, the design of the turbo blower and exhaust manifolds. Installed on shunting diesel locomotives.
  • 4D50 - marine auxiliary diesel generator.
  • 5D50 - installed on early whaling ships and diesel-electric sea tugs as main diesel generators. Power 900 hp.
  • 5D50M - installed on later whaling ships of the Mirny type. Power 1000 hp.
  • D55 - gas diesel.
