Description of the TK34 turbocharger

It is known that the main fleet of passenger and freight mainline diesel locomotives on the railways of the Russian Federation and other CIS countries are locomotives of the 2TE10 type (L, V, M, S, U and T).

These diesel locomotives are equipped with 10D100 diesel engines of various modifications (10D100, 10D100M, 10D100M1 and 10D100M1A), equipped with TK34 type turbochargers of various modifications (TK34N-04S, TK34S-09, TK34N-15).

These turbochargers were developed more than 20 years ago in the process of improving the air supply system of diesel engines of type 10D100 with a change in the gear ratio in the blower drive of the second stage of charging i = 10; 8.9; 10.6 respectively.

Currently, their technical characteristics no longer meet modern requirements.

In addition, the presence of three modifications of TK34 turbocompressors in operation, which also have some non-interchangeable structural elements, causes difficulties in repairing turbochargers and ordering spare parts for them.

Taking into account this circumstance, a single modification of the TK34 turbocompressor has been developed, which has improved technical characteristics and is applicable for all previously produced modifications of 10D100 diesel engines, as well as for newly manufactured ones.

The TK34N-19 turbochargers use a new compressor and turbine flow path, which makes it possible to increase the efficiency of the turbocharger and significantly increase the safety margin due to the use of new materials.

Tests of the 10D100B diesel engine with the new TK34N-19 turbocharger showed that the TK34N-19 turbocharger provides:

  • increase in air consumption in all modes of diesel locomotive performance;
  • reducing the gas temperature in the cylinders and in front of the turbine;
  • reducing exhaust smoke;
  • reducing fuel consumption in partial modes of diesel locomotive performance.

TK34N-19 turbochargers can be installed on all modifications of diesel engines of type 10D100 with a gear ratio in the blower drive of the second stage of charging i = 10; 10.6; eleven; 8.9 with adjustment of the nozzle area and are suitable for replacing turbochargers TK34N-04, TK34N-15 and TK34S-09, previously installed on the above diesel engines.

Samples of the TK34N-19 turbocharger have successfully passed operational tests.

Currently, TK34N-19 turbocompressors are mass-produced according to technical specifications TU24.06.1043-2002.

Technical specifications TU24.06.19.008-2001 have been developed and approved for a kit for upgrading TK34N-15 and TK34S-09 turbocompressors to TK34N-19 in locomotive depot conditions. Instructions for upgrading are included in the kit.

We are ready to supply a set of components and parts necessary for modernization to interested depots and roads in the required quantity.
